Project Introduction
A particular coal chemical company is an integrated energy and chemical enterprise. It engages in coal coking, tar chemicals, coal-to-natural gas production, and waste heat power generation. The company has built two 120-chamber, 5.5-meter stamp-charging coke ovens and a high-temperature coal tar hydrogenation unit integrated with an LNG production line.

Project Process Route
This project mainly targets the VOC emissions generated from the coking by-product section, wastewater pools, and finished product tank areas within the coal chemical plant. Xi'an Yurcent Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. is responsible for the overall design and construction of the project.
In the early stage, Yurcent carried out detailed measurements and analyses of the plant's waste gas. Based on the issues identified with the plant's existing Vocs Treatment system, Yurcent developed a tailored VOCs upgrading process route that meets both the company's production needs and the requirements of future environmental regulations.
The overall upgrading process is as follows: the original waste gas is classified and treated separately. Meanwhile, the previous practice of channeling VOC emissions into the coke oven basement for secondary combustion is replaced with an independent combustion process, in which the waste gas is directed into an RTO for high-temperature thermal oxidation. In addition, high-concentration VOC emissions from the downstream LNG product tank area are combined into the main waste gas pipeline and treated in the RTO at high temperatures, thereby solving the problem of untreated high-concentration waste gas emissions.

Compared with the former secondary combustion process, this new process offers significant advantages in terms of compliance with emission standards, operational safety, system stability, and non-interference with coke oven operations. It also represents a growing trend in VOC emission control technology for the coking industry.
The upgrading process adopts a third-generation RTO as the core treatment unit for VOCs emissions, featuring high purification efficiency, high thermal efficiency, and a compact footprint. By applying the independent combustion process, the previous issues with waste gas treatment have been effectively resolved. The target emission concentration of non-methane hydrocarbons is ≤30 mg, which meets the Class A enterprise environmental standard requirements.
